WHAT IS GOLD-FILLED?

"Gold-filled" is a USA industry standard that legally requires 1/20th (5%) pure gold by weight. It's a strictly regulated process that involved pressure bonding multiple layers of solid gold with extreme heat over a core of high quality jeweler's brass. The result of this is a durable and quality real gold product.

IS GOLD-FILLED REAL GOLD?

Yes. The gold in gold-filled jewelry is real gold. Gold-filled jewelry is comprised of a real thick layer of solid gold on top of a brass core.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLD-FILLED & GOLD-PLATED?

There is a lot more gold in gold-filled vs. gold-plated. The gold in gold-filled is attached in a way that is much more durable which in turn is a much more durable product which means it will not wear, tarnish, turn colors, peel or flake like gold-plated jewelry does. In addition, the standards for gold-filled jewelry are strickly regulated.

HOW LONG DOES GOLD-FILL JEWELRY LAST?

In theory, gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime with property care. Gold-fill materials are not supposed to tarnish easily.

IS GOLD-FILLED SAFE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?

Yes. Because the outside of the piece is solid gold, it will react with your skin the same way real gold would.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY GOLD-FILLED PIECES?

Gold-filled jewelry can last beautifully for many many years if properly cared for. Here are just a few suggestions to keep your items in tip top shape:

  • Avoid showering in it if you use anything more than a mild body wash, shampoo or conditioner.
  • Do not wear in pools or hot tubs.
  • Remove your jewels before working out. Unfortunately everyones body chemistry is different and sweat can be hard on your pieces.
  • Try to minimize the following on your jewelry: sunscreen, perfume, lotion, any cleaning product with bleach, nail polish removed and hairspray.

If your pieces do end up caked in sunscreen, sweat, etc - the best thing to do is get a bowl of warm water with a touch of gentle and mild dish soap and give it a bath. Allow your piece to soak for a minute and give it a scrub with an ultrasoft toothbrush. After rinse it in lukewarm water to make sure all the soap is off and make it is nice and dry before storing. The best way to store is in a little ziplock baggie to reduce any airflow.
